Beat February Blahs with Writing Prompts

Magnolias Yielding

The soft pink-white magnolia blossoms

give way to the urge of oncoming winter

coating the lawn with a gift

of fragrant petal-fall

drifting softly down

to the grass below

blessing my front yard

with a temporary coat

of sweet-scented wonder

in another month

winter will burst onto the scene

like an unwanted dinner guest

drinking that last bottle of good beer

and emptying your fridge

you will yield begrudgingly

for the sake of companionable conversation.
